Happy Children’s Dental Health Month! To celebrate, the team at St. Clair Tooth Co. is focusing on all things related to pediatric dental health!
At our office, Dr. Cassleman prides herself on providing informative, caring treatment for kids of all ages. We love meeting new patients and ensuring that your children have healthy, happy smiles. Here are three of the most important things you can do to keep your child’s mouth healthy for years to come:
A child’s first visit to the dentist should be around their first birthday, or whenever their first tooth erupts. From that time on, regular six-month teeth cleanings and oral exams are critical to ensure optimal dental health. Regular pediatric dental care is the best way to track your child’s oral development, identify any potential issues like cavities, and ensure that their teeth are healthy and free of any major congenital problems.
Six-month cleanings and oral exams also get your child more comfortable with Dr. Cassleman and the general process of going to the dentist. This means that they’ll be more comfortable with dental visits in the future and less likely to develop dental anxiety.
If you suspect that your child may have orthodontic issues like an improper bite, or you think they might need braces in the future, schedule an orthodontic consultation at St. Clair Tooth Co. as soon as possible! Typically, we recommend an orthodontic consultation when your child’s permanent teeth start to grow in, which is usually around the age of 6 or 7.
At your child’s consultation, Dr. Cassleman will take images and x-rays of their mouth and jaw, looking out for potential issues with their oral development. Then, depending on their age, she may recommend an orthodontic treatment such as braces, or encourage you to wait to treat your child until they’re older.
This is an often-overlooked aspect of dental health, but it’s very important, particularly if your child participates in sports. Proper emergency treatment is critical after an oral injury to save damaged teeth and restore your child’s smile without extracting a tooth.
We recommend that you always prepare yourself for dental emergencies. Whether your child has an emergency as a result of a hard hit in a contact sport, or even if they have a serious toothache, it’s important to seek help right away. At St. Clair Tooth Co., we offer flexible, same-day appointments so your child can get the care they need when they need it most.
